"The Collects are a little microcosm of a way that we might approach prayer — coming together, addressing God, being grateful to Him for something that He is or has done, asking Him to empower us to do the thing that He’s asking us to do, and ending with an articulation of praise. The Collects, of course, do the job of collecting us in common prayer around a theme, but the Collects also in and of themselves instruct us in the nature of how we might approach prayer."
In this week’s episode of Bishop Alex’s series on the Book of Common Prayer, he celebrates the gift of the prayer book’s many Collects, the prayers that correspond with specific themes or times of year.
